The United States has the oldest constitution in the world. With the exception of the Civil War, our political order has persisted for over 225 years. What has made America so exceptional in its longevity? Dr. Rufus Fears argues that our Founders uniquely relied on historical thought, using the knowledge of the past to make decisions in the present and plan for the future.

Sad to have lost such a man. Little bit of foreshadowing about dying of a heart attack? Could not watch but could listen to it, becuase I remember the gusto he moved and inflected with, here, he is holding the lecturn. His message is still strong.

  • What a privilege to hear these lectures! We must pass this legacy from Dr. Fears on to the entire US

Thank you Dr. Fears for all your life’s lessons. I will take them with me wherever I go and teach them to whom I can. I already have changed my life because of you since 2008. Your course on Life’s lessons from great books was by far the greatest. Your last course life’s lessons from great myths is also wonderful. However, it was Famous Greeks and Romans that sold me on this idea of life’s lessons. You told the story with such passion, I would tear up and feel true humility. We no longer live this way, but someday I will teach others with the hope that we may someday truly be great though the lessons learned from the past.
